Throughout the year Utah Botanical Center organizes classes for homeowners to educate them about efficient gardening, and landscaping. Friends of the Gardens Members are eligible for a discount.

This is a 5-week class series held at the USU Botanical Center from 6:30pm - 9:00pm on the fourth Thursday of each month beginning in February.

March - Proper Pruning Practices
Fruit Pruning Workshops
The workshop focuses on the art and science of proper pruning practices for apples, peaches, grapes and raspberries. The outdoor class is taught by USU Extension experts. Participants should dress for the occasion.
Basic Pruning 101: Waking Up the Landscape
This is a free workshop held at Ogden Botanical Gardens. The garden staff and Master Gardeners will demonstrate proper pruning practices to care for fruit trees, deciduous and evergreen trees, shrubs and roses. Plus the participants will learn how to clean up perennials and ornamental grasses for spring.
Extending the Garden Harvest Season
The class zeroes in simple but efficient ways to protect veggies from the cold and yield fresh produce all year round. Visitors will get tons of hands-on experience, valuable expert tips and bring home a vegetable transplant and Wall-O-Water.

April - Backyard Bounties - Get Growing!
Gardening Mini Classes
This series of mini classes deals with ways to build and use a raised bed for vegetables, raspberries, strawberries and fruit trees. The participants will learn how to select and plant ornamental trees, shrubs and perennials.
Fruit Tree Grafting Class
The workshop participants will practice fruit tree grafting and will receive two grafted apple trees of their choice.
Explore the Garden Family Night: Spring Celebration
The USU Botanical Center welcomes families to celebrate spring with a variety of activities, such as children's crafts, tours of the Utah House, and more.
Baby Animal Days
This is a fun family friendly event where children and their parents can meet lambs, kids, llamas, rabbits, chicks, ducklings, piglets raised by local 4-H members. The activities include crafts making, sheep shearing demonstrations, horseback rides, a putting green, climbing wall and miniature train rides. The funds raised during the event will be used to support Davis County 4-H and garden development at the USU Botanical Center.
June - Art in the Garden
Botanical Water Color Class
Designed for artists and plant lovers this class focuses on botanical illustrations and inspires to appreciate the beauty of nature. Taking in the beauty of the flowers and plants growing in the Utah Botanical Center the participants will master techniques that will help them capture the color and texture of flowers.
Art in the Garden Gala
Visit Ogden Botanical Garden to see local artists create their works, and then tour the gardens enjoying live music. You can also try delicious food cooked by local chefs.
July - Gardens Galore
Farmers Market Garden to Table Short Course
From methods of growing bountiful vegetables in your garden to time tested recipes of how to prepare your homegrown produce the scope of the class is really amazing.
A Day in the Wildflowers: Snowbasin Ski Resort Tour
Get the gondola to whisk you to the top of beautiful Snowbasin to learn how to identify and photograph wildflowers.
August - Wildflower Tour (Garden Members Only)
Friends of the Garden can join the 4-day Wildflower Tour to explore the picturesque Denver and Ft. Collins Colorado area. The guided tour includes a trip from Salt Lake City to Denver, deluxe motor coach transportation for all activities, 3-nights stay at Ft. Collins Hilton Hotel, visiting Rocky Mountain National Park, a tour of Denver Botanical gardens and more.
September - Garden Fair
Be a judge at the salsa contest held at the Farmers Market. The free event guarantees tons of fun for everyone!
Renewable Energy Class
This class deals with practical ways how Utah residents can take advantage of solar energy. It covers options for residential solar power and hot water systems in the state of Utah, their design, installation challenges and state and federal tax incentives.
Explore the Garden Family Night: Pumpkin Palooza
Grab your family and take them to USU Botanical Center the night before Halloween to take part in fun activities like strolling through the pumpkin patch, finding your way to the end of the Grass Garden Labyrinth, and having your face painted. There will be children's crafts, games, contests and more.
